The people of Ukwa East have unanimously endorsed Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti, OFR, for a second term in office.
This is as the member representing Ukwa East State Constituency, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, former Majority leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Paul Taribo of the APC, Former Commissioner, Former Ukwa East Transition Chairman, Former Aspmiss GM, Hon. Ossy Nwamuo, 2 terms Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Chinedu Brown, among other bigwigs, collapsed the Local Government into the Labour Party, decamping from the PDP and APC.

Welcoming the new members to the Labour Party, Governor Alex Otti thanked them for joining the party and appreciated their support and endorsement for his second term in office in 2027.
Governor Otti announced that electric power, which has eluded the entire Ndoki land for more than 2 decades, as they reported, would be fully restored by the end of March 2026.

“If we could give power to not just Ukwa West, but Etche, which is not part of Abia State, we have no choice but to give you power.
“I understand you already have power drawn here, so you probably require transformers and a smart metering system. If that is what is required, you can take it from me that before the end of March, you will have power here,” Gov. Otti stated.
Governor Otti instructed the Commissioner for Works to scoop the remaining part of Ohanku Road to extend it into the Ohanku community.
He also assured that the Othe bohia Road reconstruction project, though very expensive, would equally be extended to Obohia village in Ukwa East LGA and work on their internal roads as requested by Senator Wabara, while informing that the disputes around the border, particularly in Akirika Obu is being handled as he had discussed with his Akwa Ibom State counterpart to ensure that peace is permanently restored.
On their request for recovering Abia Palm, he said that his government has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an international company that is involved in palm production and palm products.
The Governor, who said that his government has completed the renovation and retrofitting of 11 primary health care centres in Ukwa East, noted that four of them have been functionalized, while the remaining would all be functionalized within the next 45 days. He directed the Mayor of Ukwa East to carry out a palliative work on the roofs of the school blocks where the event took place, assuring that he would later fix the school. In line with Governor Otti’s inauguration pledge to Athe bia People anchored on his belief that public office holders should not be honored with awards during their tenure in office, the State Chief Executive asked the Ukwa East traditional rulers council to keep the Chieftaincy title they wanted to confer on him till after his tenure in 2031.
Earlier, Senator Adolphus Wabara had moved a motion for the endorsement of the Governor for the second term in office, and seconded by Hon. Lewis Obianyi, while the mammoth crowd affirmed unanimously.
Senator Wabara, Hon. Lewis Obianyi, Hon. Uzoma Nkem Abonta, Ambassador Okey Emuche, and Lady Chinedu Brown, in their speeches, had stated that the entire Ukwa people are in unison in their decision, emphasising that it was not a political party affair, but a resolution to support Governor Alex Otti, who has performed creditably.
While the political leaders commended Governor Otti for flagging off the construction of the first and brand new Ukwa East General Hospital, fixing schools in the Local Government, renovating primary healthcare centres, among others, they requested the Governor to restore their light, as they informed the Governor that the people have remained in darkness for over 2 decades.
They also requested the revitalisation of the Abia palm, the extension of the road construction from Obohia and Ohanku Roads in Aba to Ukwa East, and the restoration of peace in Akirika Obu.
Contributing, the Mayor of Ukwa East LGA, Hon. Chibunna Akara, and Eze Ikeagwuchi Ekeke, who spoke on behalf of the. Asa community highlighted many achievements of Governor Alex Otti in Ukwa East and drew his attention to some other challenges facing the Local Government, while assuring the Governor of their unanimous support in securing his reelection.
The Honourable Commissioner for Information and the son of the soil, Prince Okey Kan,u and many other dignitaries were present at the event,nt while the traditional rulers prayed for the Governor and gave him gifts with an offer to confer on him a Chieftaincy title.
