The remains of late Dr. Mrs. Uzoma Kelechi Nwaubani, a member of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas [ANPA], have been laid to rest at her country home in Nkata Ibeku, Umuahia North LGA.
The funeral service was officiated by the Assemblies of God Church Nigeria on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
Speaking at the service, the Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, described the death of Dr. Mrs. Nwaubani as a painful loss to her family, the medical profession, and humanity in general.
The Governor described the late Dr. Nwaubani as a rare gift to humanity who lived ahead of her time and dedicated herself to the service of others.
Governor Otti said he had the privilege of meeting Dr. Nwaubani only a day before her death, during the ANPA medical mission in Abia. He described the encounter as memorable because of her vibrancy, energy, and commitment to giving back to society.
“I met her a day before she passed on, and we bonded. She introduced me to her husband, Dr. Arthur Nwaubani, and her daughter, who is a medical student, Ugomsinachi. They were all here for the ANPA medical mission,” Gov. Otti recalled.
The State Chief Executive said he initially found it difficult to believe the news of her sudden death because of how energetic and enthusiastic she was the previous day.
“A day later, I received news that she wasn’t feeling well. I thought it was a joke. An hour later, I was told that she had passed on.
“It was difficult for me to make sense of it, because here was a vibrant lady, very energetic, very happy that she had come to give back to her society,” Gov. Otti stated.
Governor Otti, who expressed deep grief over the loss, urged the bereaved family to find comfort in their Christian faith and the assurance of resurrection.
“While Christians are naturally expected to mourn the death of a loved one, they should not grieve without hope.
“Anybody that says he should not weep will be deceiving himself. Of course, this is a great loss. But then, I don’t want you to weep like a non-believer,” Gov. Otti stated.
The Governor said the circumstances surrounding death may differ, but what ultimately matters is the eternal destination of the believer.
He expressed confidence that the late Dr. Nwaubani had gone to a better place, assuring the family that the hope of the Christian is anchored in the resurrection.
Earlier in his sermon, the District Superintendent, Assemblies of God Church, Enugu, Rev. Dr. Isaac Nnaji, spoke on the topic, “When a Christian Dies.”
He reminded Christians that death is inevitable and urged believers to live right and remain prepared, stressing that death has no ultimate power over a child of God.
He encouraged Christians to examine their lives, mend their ways and live in accordance with the teachings of Christ, noting that the hope of the believer rests in the resurrection and eternal life.
Aged 53, late Dr. Uzoma Nwaubani is survived by her husband, Dr. Arthur Nwaubani, and four children.
The burial service attracted the presence of the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti, among other government officials.
