Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has called for greater care, protection, and social inclusion for senior citizens, stressing that supporting the elderly is not an act of charity but a moral and legal obligation owed to those who have contributed immensely to society.
Governor Otti made the call on wednesday, August 5, 2026, while delivering the keynote address at the 60th birthday symposium of Apostle Bolaji Oluwayanmife Akinyemi, Convener of The Apostolic Roundtable, President of Voice of His Word Ministries and Chairman, Board of Trustees of Project Victory Call Initiative [PVC Naija].
The event was held at the NAFOWA Hall, Children’s Park, Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, Lagos. It also featured the presentation of Apostle Akinyemi’s latest book, ‘Global Leadership Code: Donald J. Trump As A Case Study’, and attracted distinguished personalities from across the country.
Speaking on the theme, “Life at 60: Senior Citizens, Government’s Role and the Citizens’ Pact,” Governor Otti described the celebrant as a man of courage, integrity and selfless service, whose life has been dedicated to nation-building, civic responsibility and the advancement of God’s kingdom.
The Governor emphasized that societies thrive when leaders and citizens embrace accountability, empathy and responsible leadership. He noted that meaningful development can only be achieved through active citizen participation and visionary governance.
Highlighting his administration’s commitment to the welfare of older persons, Governor Otti cited the Abia State Senior Citizens Centre Law No. 4 of 2025. He explained that the law provides a comprehensive legal framework for the care, protection and social inclusion of Abia residents, aged 60 years and above.
According to the State Chief Executive, the law guarantees access to healthcare, welfare support, emergency assistance and protection from abuse, while implementation mechanisms have already been put in place.
Gov. Otti added that Abia’s investments in healthcare, education and road infrastructure are designed to create opportunities for younger generations while ensuring that senior citizens enjoy dignity, security and quality healthcare in retirement.
The Governor congratulated Apostle Akinyemi on attaining the milestone age of 60 and commended him for choosing to celebrate the occasion with intellectual engagement and national discourse through the launch of his new book. He urged Nigerians to embrace constructive dialogue, patriotism and collective responsibility in building a better nation.
Also speaking at the event, Pastor Goke Poka of House on the Rock Ministries emphasized the importance of nation-building and loyalty. He noted that true loyalty should extend beyond personal interests to include commitment to God, society and the nation’s collective progress.
The celebration climaxed with Governor Alex Otti joining Apostle Bolaji Oluwayanmife Akinyemi and other distinguished guests to cut the 60th birthday cake and officially unveil the celebrant’s latest book, ‘Global Leadership Code: Donald J. Trump As A Case Study’.
The event also featured goodwill messages, prayers and heartfelt tributes in honour of Apostle Akinyemi, as family, friends, associates and well-wishers celebrated his remarkable contributions to Ministry, leadership development and nation-building.
