As part of activities to mark his third anniversary in office, the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, will, within May 2026, commission over 25 road projects carried out by his government across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced this on Monday, while addressing press men in Government House, Umuahia, at the post EXCO briefing.

Some of the roads to be commissioned include Onuimo-Tower road, Abiriba -Ohafia road, Nunya -Isuikwuato road, Umuafai-Lodu-Ahiaeke-Okwuta road
among others.
The Commissioner said that the State Executive Council has advised all political appointees in the state to take particular interest and ownership of government projects in their communities.
According to him, “This is to ensure that minor repairs or improvements in infrastructure are handled as the need arises.
“In the same way, they are to ensure that the state of projects and sanitation of schools in their domains are fixed, and maintain cleanliness and hygiene in their communities.
“In this way, mayors, councillors, and even local government appointees will take an interest in the development of infrastructure and a clean environment in their communities.
“This is one way the state government is trying to build a bulwark of support for communities in the state from these appointees, both at the state and the local government level.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, announced that the state government was taking a very strong stance against those who drive against traffic in the state, especially in the state capital.
He noted that the government has observed with dismay how some drivers drive against the traffic and emphasised that, “those who drive against traffic, and those who refuse to obey traffic laws, will be punished according to extant traffic laws.1
“We’ve seen a situation where some drivers ignore the red light and keep zooming.
“Please, the government will take a very strong stance against such individuals.
“Nobody should drive against traffic. Nobody should violate traffic here. It’s very important.
“We want to have a sane state capital. We want to have a sane state. And it’s in the interest of everyone that people respect traffic,” Mr. Ekeoma stated.
He said that the government officials, including the Governor’s convoy, obey the traffic rules; hence, the government does not expect others to ignore the traffic rules.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha was present at the briefing.
