The Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, chaired the wedding ceremony of Miss Shekinah Chidinma, daughter of retired Major General Obi Abel Umahi, and her spouse, Mr. Moshope Alexander, in Lagos.
Miss Shekinah is the daughter of retired Major General Obi Abel Umahi, elder brother to the former Governor of Ebonyi State and current Minister of Works, His Excellency Senator Dave Nwaeze Umahi.
The wedding ceremony brought together family members, friends, political leaders, business executives, and other distinguished Nigerians.
Governor Otti was present at the Church wedding held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Powerlink Chapel, 38 Providence Street, Marwa Junction, Lagos. Governor Otti later joined the family and guests at the reception held at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island.
Speaking at the reception, Governor Otti congratulated the couple and advised them to remain united. He likened marriage to a parcel, noting that one cannot fully know what it contains until it is opened.
“As you know, this business is like a parcel. Once you get the parcel and open it, whatever you find inside it is your luck. We don’t have to know,” the Governor said.
The State Chief Executive urged the couple to allow themselves to understand one another, make adjustments, and learn from their experiences as they build their home. He also encouraged their families and friends to give them the space they need to grow together.
Governor Otti prayed that God would bless the union, bless the couple with children, and provide them with the resources to care for their family. He further prayed for the grace to build a happy and successful home.
In his vote of thanks, General Obi Umahi expressed appreciation to Governor Otti and other guests for honouring the family with their presence. He described his daughter as intelligent and promising from childhood, and expressed confidence in the bright future of the newlyweds.
