Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has officially commissioned three newly reconstructed roads in Aba including; the 1.6 kilometres Cemetery Road phase Il, 2.7 kilometres Umuocham Road and 1.6 kilometres Umule Road.
Speaking at various locations of the roads in Aba South and Osisioma LGAs, Governor Otti charged residents, traders and other road users to assist Government in protecting the roads.
He said he was glad over the strides his administration has made in intra city road networks in the last 18 months, adding that he is intentional in responding to the infrastructural challenges of Aba while assuring that he would not rest on his oars.
“I am glad about the strides we have made in terms of intracity connectivity through quality road networks. But again we shall not be resting on our oars because there is still so much more to be done”.
“Our focus is to deliver world class urban infrastructure to the city so that it becomes one of the most inviting destination for individuals and families and of course businesses in West Africa and beyond”, Otti stated.
Governor Otti, who said that Cemetery road was abandoned for more than 20 years, informed the crowd that the first phase of the road was commissioned in September last year and reviewed that the road was built with drainages to ensure durability.
The State Chief Executive Officer while commending the team of Engineers in the State Ministry of Works for their commitment in quality delivery disclosed that the Umuocham and Umule roads which would have cost Government close to 3.6 Billion Naira was fixed with 1.2 billion Naira through direct labour. He urged them to get ready for more jobs next year.
“As I say often, the reward for good job is more jobs so please the entire team should get ready for a busier period starting in 2025 “
He called on all to appreciate the works of the Government in the state and support her through payment of taxes and provision of intelligence.
“We must embrace our civic responsibilities as citizens and partners in the new Abia project by paying our taxes as and when due, providing reliable and timely information to the law enforcement agencies on possible activities of criminals in your neighborhood and joining the campaign against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other forms of bad behaviors”, Otti stated.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Don Oti noted that the roads were done in keeping to the Governor’s strong belief that a viable road network is the path to a sustainable economic growth.
He disclosed that while the Cemetry road was reconstructed by Rock Results Group , the Umule and Umuocham roads were executed through direct labour. He highlighted the economic importance of the roads to the Aba community.
He urged the residents to take full ownership of the infrastructure and protect it from abuse as well as avoid acts that would be inimical to the lifespan of the road.
In their various speeches, the Member representing Aba Central State Constituency, Hon. Stephen Ucheonye, his Osisioma South counterpart, Fyne Ahuama and former member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Chimaobi Ebisike applauded Governor Alex Otti for his resolve in fixing roads in Aba.
Contributing, the Mayor of Aba South LGA, Mr. Obilor Anyanwu and the Mayor of Osisioma LGA, Chief Chidi Agu and the leader of the Landlords’ Association, Mr. Kingsley Anthony thanked Governor Alex Otti for fixing the roads and and putting smiles on the faces of the people.
They assured the governor that they would vote for him again in 2027, maintaining that he has proved that he loves Aba people.
