The 5394 newly recruited teachers by the Abia State Government will resume work on the 22nd of September when schools in the State resume.
Governor Alex Otti, OFR, disclosed this on Sunday, 14th September, during a church service at Salvation Ministries, 135 Okigwe Road, Aba, where he had gone to worship unannounced.

Governor Otti stated that the recruitment was transparently done, ensuring that only the qualified got the job, irrespective of where they came from.
”In everything we do, we put righteousness first. In our recruitment, we hired 5394 teachers. On the 22nd of this month, they would all resume.
”But the interesting thing is that there was no list – no Governor’s list, no Deputy Governor’s list, no Senator’s list, like it used to be in the past.
”Everything was done transparently. You apply, you write the test, you sit for the interview, and then we take people from number one until we draw the line,” Governor Otti stated amidst applause from the congregation.
While disclosing that the employment was open to all residents in Abia, he emphasised that it was wrong to put someone who didn’t do well above someone who did well.
The Governor urged the people to make it their responsibility to protect public infrastructure being put in place by his administration. He also urged them to ensure that their environments are kept clean, as Aba has been cleaned up by his administration and is no longer the dirty place it was known for in the past.
Speaking further, the State Chief Executive encouraged the people to always fulfil their civic responsibility of paying their taxes, as the Government is already fulfilling its obligations to the citizens.
”If we have done what we need to do as a Government, then your own responsibility is to also do what you have to do, including paying your taxes.
”We have been very mild with taxes because we also understand how taxes work,” the Governor added.
He went on to define tax as “Government share of the prosperity that it has created,” saying that if you have not created prosperity, you have no moral justification to collect taxes from the people.
Gov. Otti commended the people of Aba for appreciating the Government’s efforts in the construction of roads and the provision of other social amenities. He announced that someone magnanimously donated the sum of two hundred million to the Government because the Government built a decades-long collapsed road connecting his area to other places.
Governor Otti encouraged the people to go and register in the ongoing continuous voters registration exercise, saying that if you fail to vote or shy away from voting in an election, you have voted for the wrong person.
He thanked the members of the Church for their continued prayers and support, saying that his Government was institutionalised by God and would not deliberately do anything wrong.
From the Church service, Governor Otti headed to Ovom street, undergoing reconstruction after gully erosion destroyed the road, cutting off the people living in the area, leading to the collapse of buildings and loss of livelihood before the State Government’s intervention.
The Governor expressed satisfaction at the level of work done and assured the crowd that trooped out to greet him with solidarity songs that the work would be completed before the end of the year.
The Governor was accompanied to the Church service and road inspection by top Government functionaries and personal aides.
