Governor Alex Otti has flagged off the reconstruction, expansion and dualization of the 5.95 kilometres Onuimo – Abia Tower of Peace road.
Also flagged off is the reconstruction of the long abandoned 6.92 kilometres Umuokpara ring road all in Umuahia South LGA.
Speaking while flagging off the two road projects, Governor Alex Otti said the Onuimo – Abia Tower of Peace road would be expanded to a 4 – lane dual carriage way to not only reduce road accidents but create a boom in the economy of the people.
He said that the concern of his administration in the new Abia is to ensure that every road coming into Abia is put in a good shape, adding that the issue of whether it is a federal or state road does not matter. He thanked the federal government and particularly the Minister of Works for the necessary approvals and used the opportunity to warn criminal elements around Umuahia South that the area would be hot for them.
“It is important that we warn criminal elements and their supporters that this place shall be very hot and miserable for them. We shall set every machinery of government against them”.
“We shall continue to give our gallant officers support.
We shall be relentless, we shall be brutal and merciless to whoever may like to cause panic or loss of life.” Gov. Otti warned.
Governor Alex Otti said that the recoonstruction of the Umuokpara ring road is in line with his infrastructural development agenda aimed at boosting the economy of the State.
He said that creating access roads especially in the economically strategic rural areas would empower the hard working Abians. He urged the people to cooperate with the contractors to enable them deliver accordingly.
In their speeches, the Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha and Member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma while appreciating Governor Otti for his decision to recoonstruct the roads asserted that the road would boost businesses in the area.
They called on the people to reciprocate the gesture by sustaining their support for Governor Alex Otti who they said is committed to changing the narratives in the State.
Speaking also, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Otumchere Oti assured that at completion, the roads would provide a good driving experience for commuters. He said that solar powered street lights would be installed on the roads and disclosed that the contract period for the Onuimo-Abia Tower road is 18 months while that of Umuokpara ring road is 12 months.
The Mayor of Umuahia South LGA, Hon. Chinedu Enwereuzo, President General, Umuopara Development Union, Chief Emenike Onuoha thanked Governor Otti for good work he is doing in Umuahia and Umuahia South LGA and assured him of their unalloyed support.
